  1. The society’s positive aspects are you can live in a place where it is less chaotic. This is good in a way cause everyone is following the same rules and you don’t have to worry about people killing you or breaking into your house. Another positive aspect is you have the right to chose your life goal, if your not a coal miner, and who you marry. This is good cause you can do what you want to do and not be forced to do something you don’t want to do or marry.

The society’s negative aspects are that if you do something against the rules and the peacekeepers find out, they punish you in front of the whole town. This is bad cause it would be embarrassing for the whole town to know you broke the rule. Also this is unfair because if you were being killed it would be gross for the people to watch. Another negative aspect is you have to live in districts and you can’t go beyond the boundaries of your district. This it unfair because you can’t go venturing around the districts and visiting people around the country.

    • I agree with you 100% with the negative aspects. It is extremely cruel to whip/torture somebody in public, especially if you are convicted of a crime that you don’t want people to know about. It should not be required to watch the person dye a slow and painful death.

      Comment by YouthAG1 — January 19, 2011 @ 9:09 pm

  2. I think that there are more negative impacts than there are positive.
The society’s negative aspects include the following in my opinion I don’t think that there is enough freedom. There are too many unfair rules. For example you HAVE to enter hour name in the games once you are a certain age. I don’t think this is fair because only one person would survive in the end and therefore there would be a lot of young innocent children dying do to less survival knowledge. I also think that the Capitol is not doing a good job of feeding ALL people that live in Panem. I disagree that Panem should be split into parts where people aren’t treated as nicely as the “better” districts.

One of the very few positive aspects is that you are able to receive food from the Capitol once a month if someone in your district won the Games. Another positive aspect is that if you are rich, the Capitol will treat you beter than others. Also you would be able to get thugs from the store like food and be able to still eat it while it was warm.

    • I totally agree with you. There are a ton more negative than positive aspects. I also disagree with you though. If the Capitol treats the rich people better (which is probably like 10% of Panem) then what about the other 90% of people who don’t get treated like this just because they were born into a poor family. I think it is not fair and therefore I do not think this is a positive aspect, but in contrast a negative one.

      Comment by YouthZO6 — January 19, 2011 @ 7:26 pm

      • I agree with you becuase yes they do not have much freedom at all. They are forced to enter their names into the Games when they are twelve and that is just wrong. As you said, they don’t have time to learn survival knowledge. Overall, the Capitol doesn’t really care about anyone except for themselves.

  3. One positive aspect os catching fire is that you cant live in a society less chaos. A negative thing is that there is not much freedom for the people and the rules are kind of unfair.

  4. One positive aspect of this story’s society is that it is very well organized and structured. There is a strict set of laws(which may not be fair) that keep the districts in line. Also, you can get a good education in school and learn about the necessary skills to survive in the Capitol’s harsh world.

One negative aspect of this society is that your name gets put into the Reaping and might have to fight to the death in the annual Hunger Games. Also, the set of laws are way too strict and the Peacekeepers(who are like our Police officers/justices/FBI officers) are relentless in their punishments. Lastly, this society leaves some people to starve on the side of the street which is never a good thing even in our lives today. But on top of that the spoiled people in the Capitol are always throwing away and wasting precious food and supplies that starving people in the other districts could use.

    Comment by YouthZO6 — January 19, 2011 @ 7:13 pm

    • I completely agree with the fact that the Capitol wastes the things they use. The food and other things they throw away like it’s nothing are essential necessities to the people of the poorer districts, the people who are living in starvation. And on top of that, the Capitol acts like it’s no big deal, and doesn’t make any big attempt to help them.

      Comment by youthKH7 — January 20, 2011 @ 10:04 pm

  5. One negative aspect of the society is that your they have a Querrel Quell every 25 years the hunger games carries on. I do not think that the contenders of the Querrel Quell or even the hunger games should be punished for something that happened over 75 years ago.

One positive thing is that the Districts are having an uprising to bring down the Capitol. Obviously nobody likes the capital or what there doing, especially Katniss. If the Districts succeed in bringing down the Capitol then they will put a stop to the murders in the hunger games, and also by the Peacekeeper’s.

    Comment by YouthAG1 — January 19, 2011 @ 8:48 pm

    • I agree with your positive and negative aspects and I think that the peacekeeper’s are a major problem to the districts uprising. I also, think that president snow is evil.

      Comment by YouthAS1 — January 19, 2011 @ 9:31 pm

    • I don’t agree that they should have an uprising. I’m almost positive they would lose and it would only make it worse for them after it.

      Comment by NayJM7 — January 20, 2011 @ 7:41 pm

      • Well actually then can win the uprising. They can win because they got way more people than the capitol and they have different kinds of people that make stuff.

        Comment by YouthFS6 — January 25, 2011 @ 4:38 pm

  6. Positive aspect’s of living in the Catching Fire society is that your life is pretty much set up for you. Your either born in poverty in one of the poor districts where your forced to work for a living and enter your name into the games more than once for food. Or your born in one of the richer districts where you can train as a career and learn how to fight and win the games. Negative aspect’s of living there is that your forced to do what ever the capitol want’s you to do. Also, you have to deal with being entered in the hunger games yearly and working you whole life if you weren’t born in a rich family.

    Comment by YouthAS1 — January 19, 2011 @ 9:28 pm

    • Even if you are a Career, you aren’t guaranteed a win, like with Glimmer and Cato. And you’re only eligible for the Hunger Games when you’re young, not your whole life. And some of the poorer districts are more like a family than the nicer ones.

      Comment by YouthJS7 — January 20, 2011 @ 6:31 pm

  7. One negative aspect of the society in Catching Fire is that you have so many rules set up to follow. If you “rebel” in any form you will be punished, so basically you don’t have a lot of freedom. Another negative aspect is that the Peace Keepers aren’t very peaceful because they punish anyone who “rebels”. One last negative aspect is that you are entered yearly for the Games which is supposed to be a reminder of not to rebel but I think that it would cause the people to rebel.

But the positive aspects of the society in Catching Fire are very few. You do get to choose your own profession and who you want to marry. Also, if you are rich you are most likely treated better by the Capitol cause well the Capitol doesn’t care about the poor too much. One last thing is that all residents from all the Districts all have homes, they may not get the food needed but have some type of shelter or “home”.

    Comment by NayAB1 — January 20, 2011 @ 5:57 pm

    • I agree that being entered into the Games would cause people to rebel. They have built up anger over the years of the Hunger Games that will eventually have to come out against the Capitol. If I were in the people of the districts position my anger would cause me to absolutely despise the Capitol and Peacekeepers.

      Comment by YouthAK7 — January 21, 2011 @ 2:45 pm

  8. I think the Panem society is a lot like primitive societies, despite the technological advances. Very few people live well, and most live in poverty and fear of the Hunger Games. On the plus side, they appear to be the only country left on Earth, so they have no global competition.

    Comment by YouthJS7 — January 20, 2011 @ 6:28 pm

    • I agree with the positive. Thy seem to have a lot more control then most other contries. also i think there technology is definetly a plus but they should use that for good and not for bad. the poverty is a problem and the capitol should fix it not encourage it just cause thy get more control over the poor.

      Comment by BakerLou1 — January 21, 2011 @ 8:20 am

  9. I believe that the positive aspects are that during the hunger games they can enter more times and get grain and oil. that puts a humongous strain on the people but at least the capital helps them in some way. There are a lot of negative aspects about the society. I don’t think the capital should just stand around and let all these people go hungry. If they helped the districts then there would not be any rebellion because everyone would be happy!

    Comment by NayJM7 — January 20, 2011 @ 7:37 pm

    • I agree that the Capitol only cares about itself and also that they keep the districts poor. I think that the Capitol must have the districts in order to survive.

      Comment by BakerKW1 — January 25, 2011 @ 8:15 am

  10. The structure of Panem’s society definitely has many negative aspects. The Capitol only cares about itself, really, having all its citizens in the districts poor and starving. Having an annual Hunger Games is also a negative aspect. Watching people from their own country fight to the death for their entertainment should not be lawful.

The positive aspects would most likely come from the Capitol resident’s perspectives. They live the good life, being rich and having abundant food. They most likely find their society a very suitable place to live. Also, having each district manufacture a certain product is a positive aspect, yet again in the Capitol’s perspective. This allows the people of the Capitol to have the goods they need without doing any work.

    Comment by youthKH7 — January 20, 2011 @ 9:56 pm

  11. I think there are many negative affects ofthis society, but not many positive. The negative in cludes the neglet they forse upon citizens. I understand that the capitol doesnt want an uprising but then you could just treat them like they wouldnt want to start one. Also people are hungry and poor have bad houses and punisments for simmple things like going in the woods are too severe. The electric fence is a little extreme. I understand that this fence also provides protection from the outside world. Everyone is seporated too, and no one can even take vacations. That is a sad life. The only positive i can think of is for the capitol and the control they have over everyone. The people are mistreated and they should start an uprising to get what they deserve.

    Comment by BakerLou1 — January 21, 2011 @ 8:17 am

  12. Some negative aspects for the society of the districts are the way they punish people. They do not go into detail about what happened or ask witnesses. They go straight to whipping/beating people to death or near it. Some positive aspects are that people have not revulted until now. Making the Hunger Games kept people scared and Katniss and Peeta’s plan in the Games with the berries was a scenario no one had ever imagined.

    Comment by YouthAK7 — January 21, 2011 @ 2:40 pm

  13. The negative aspects of the society in Catching Fire are that the people in the districts are forced to fight against each other in an arena made by the Capitol. Another negative aspect is that most of the people in the districts starve and some of them die of starvation. A positive aspect is that some districts have the power to rebel against the Capitol. A second positive aspect is that both Peeta and Katniss were able to win the 74th Hunger Games. Third, some of the districts are able to escape through the fence surrounding their district.

    Comment by BakerKW1 — January 25, 2011 @ 8:12 am

    • I think you have some of that right. For the negatives i agree with you but for positives you said that the districs have the power to rebel. But they really dont, they have no rights and anyone that shows any sign of being agenst the capital is put to death. Plus they hardly have the recorces to have a war, they will probaly end up fighting with sticks and stones.

      Comment by YouthCG7 — March 29, 2011 @ 10:16 pm

  14. I don’t believe there are any positive aspects of this society. If I were to try and pick one, I think it would be the uniformity of each District. This keeps each citizens life very uniform so they can’t think of things such as rebellion. I think the negative aspects are easy to see. You have no freedom in job choice, there is a Reaping every year, the Hunger Games, electric fences around the districts, and no association with other districts.

    Comment by YouthGJ7 — January 27, 2011 @ 7:41 am

  15. The positive aspects of this societ would probaly be that the goverment or AKA: Capital has the whole contry under control and has them on lock down. They are the masters and the residents in any of the districts are just there little pets. Just like we have dog fights, they send there pets into a ring to fight to the death. But there pets are the people of the districs (1-12). But obviously on the negative side i could go on for ever for this contry is practaly a dictatorship. There is no demacrocie or politics. With the capital says is what goes, or else they will kill you.
